Modifications to Existing Systems - 1HR
NFPA 13 (2025)
For the 2022 edition of NFPA 13, the single-point density concept was finally adopted, and the area/density curves became obsolete. This change sparked an overhaul of the Modification to Existing Systems chapter in NFPA 13 for the 2025 revision cycle and included fundamental changes for the evaluation of systems that are already in service. This presentation will review the new structure of the existing systems chapter and additional requirements on the evaluation, modification, and testing of existing systems.
8:00AM
Antifreeze for Sprinkler Systems - 4HR
NFPA 13 (2022)
NFPA 25 (2020)
This presentation will provide an in-depth discussion on the requirements for antifreeze when used in sprinkler systems. A brief history of antifreeze in the standards will be reviewed followed by an overview of the listing and installation requirements. In addition, the fluid characteristics of antifreeze will be discussed, specifically the effect on hydraulics based on viscosity and expansion of the liquid. The presentation will conclude with an overview of the inspection, testing, and maintenance requirements for antifreeze and alternative options for the replacement of nonlisted antifreeze. Lunch Break during this session.
12:30PM
Fire Alarm and Fire Sprinkler System Coordination - 1HR
NFPA 13 (2025)
NFPA 72 (2025)
This course provides an overview of the coordination between fire alarm and fire sprinkler systems, with a focus on how these systems interact to detect, control, and signal fire events. Participants will explore key concepts from NFPA 13 and NFPA 72, including alarm, supervisory, and trouble conditions, as well as the integration of detection devices, releasing systems, and monitoring components. The course also examines different types of preaction systems and their operational requirements per system type.
1:30PM
NFPA 25 Internal Assessments and Obstruction Investigations - 2HR
NFPA 25 (2023)
This presentation will discuss the requirements for internal assessments and obstruction investigations as required to maintain sprinkler systems in accordance with NFPA 25. In addition to the 5-year internal assessment, this presentation will detail the triggers for an obstruction investigation and the common causes of internal obstructions and corrosion within water-based fire protection systems.
Attendees must complete course evaluations after the seminars are over and must sign in and out on the attendance form. Failure to complete the evaluation timely and to sign in/out will result in forfeiture of CEUs. CEUs will be issued by AFSA National and loaded into users' accounts on FireSprinkler.org.
